What can we do?

There is a lot we must do urgently!

This global warming issue is enormous, but I needed to start somewhere.

Even at 0.0000001%, I started.

PROJECT EARTH

Since 2000, I have practised 5R—refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle—to help slow down the extraction of forests for unsanitary waste landfills, which cause bad air and water pollution that impacts wildlife and humans. In 2019, I discovered a way to reduce plastic waste––by making plastic bricks, which significantly reduced my total plastic waste a year to 2 plastic bricks.

Since 2008, I do not own or run a car; I walk, cycle, take public transport, or borrow one. I have plenty of time to enjoy what matters. When I must use a car, I borrow. Living in Shanghai, I had a 1930s Shanghai Phoenix passenger bicycle and discovered that every mile I walk or bike burns an average of 100 calories and reduces 9 kg of CO2 emissions, 226kg a year!

The same year, I learned to rejuvenate soil biodiversity by turning waste into fertiliser (black gold) to grow various vegetables in my backyard. It is a hearty way to turn waste into a garden and back to the table.

In 2024, I heard Lower Kinabatangan needed help reestablish a Wildlife Sanctuary Corridor so that the diverse flora and fauna could continue thriving. APE did a great job on this “Restore Our Amazing Rainforest” initiative.
