The Rain Is Nature’s Way to Reset
On Earth Day, nature has its way to reset.
A quiet reminder
// Earth’s always got our back //
Our Power, Our Planet—Our FLOW
Earth Day 2025 calls for a bold move: to triple renewable energy by 2030.
The theme “Our Power, Our Planet” isn’t just about the grid.
It’s about our inner energy—how we power through the world, burn out, and bounce back.
Because just as Earth flows through its natural rhythms—sunrise to sunset, seasons to seasons—we do too.
But in a world that rewards the grind, we forget to pause.
To reset.
To honour the flow that fuels everything.
Yesterday, I was deep in the zone. One of those long-haul, high-focus, mentally demanding days.
I had set an 8 p.m. shutdown ritual.
But I turned it off...
My athlete instinct kicked in.
An old habit.
When I’m in FLOW, I’ll splinter off and finish another thing—fast.
But time?
My estimate doesn’t always match reality.
It’s easy to get swept up and forget the body needs breaks.
As a national athlete, I trained my body and mind to push past limits.
And even now, the muscle memory is alive.
I’ve honoured it in sport, strategy, creativity, and leadership.
It tells me when to stretch, when to switch on, and when to reset.
FLOW is not totally like GRIT.
Peak performance is about hitting a new milestone daily.
And we have a different upset in pursuit of balance (but that’s a story for another time).
I once had a conversation with Kobe Bryant—yes, that Kobe.
He trained for long hours every day.
But what stood out most?
He scheduled multiple resets a day.
His body needed to recover from the pressure he put it under while his mind stayed locked on his goals.
That’s how FLOW works.
GRIT moves us forward.
But RESET keeps us alive.
Then it rained.
I didn’t even notice at first.
But I stepped outside for a breath, and the world slowed down.
It wasn’t just rain. It was Earth reminding me,
// Reset. I’ve got your back //
Because when Earth flows, we flow too.
And this message? It’s personal.
For 25 years, I’ve been in quiet conversation with the Earth.
I practice the 5Rs, walk and bike instead of driving, grow food in my urban garden, and have redesigned a biodiversity home that uses 35% less energy, despite Malaysia’s rising heat.
I don’t do it to be perfect.
I do it to live in FLOW with the planet.
Because the Earth isn’t just where we live.
It’s who we move with.
It’s the quiet coach behind every reset.
I took a quiet walk this morning to reset and move with the Earth because when she flows, we FLOW.
So this Earth Day, remember this:
High performance isn’t just about GRIT.
It’s about REST.
It’s about knowing your rhythm.
It’s about honouring the flow.
Happy #EarthDay 🌍
